It’s Springtime!! and what better time to go 🚶 hiking, and explore Lebanon’s amazing ⛰ mountains, green 💐🪻🌺 flowery scenery, 💧 rivers, ⛩ wooden bridge, cliffs, grotto, rock formations & beautiful 🌫️ sceneries make the trail one of the best in 🇱🇧 Lebanon, 🤩 especially during this season. This hike is not just a hike; it is a cultural tour as well.

📜 DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT:
========================

The nature of the region from downstream the hill we are going to see; the hill of “Qornet el Hamra”, located at an altitude of 400 m above sea level. A big Cross stands there overlooking the area.
It will be the perfect place for hiking, will be a moderate one with some downhill, will walk around the borders of the cliff to reach the river of 🐕 Nahr El Kaleb; will have enough time for fun, photo shooting, and rest.

We will gather at 7:45 AM in front of the Nahr el Kaleb concrete bridge in Dbayeh (river side) and start our march towards the Rock of Nahr el Kaleb (Open Museum). Afterwards, we will take the staircase over the tunnel to reach the foothill overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The views are remarkable — don’t miss them!

The historical inscriptions found at the mouth of the Nahr-el-kalb (Dog River, the Lycus of the Romans) represent a unique combination of history and geography.
A total of 17 plaques have been traced, all on the south bank except for one on the north bank. The single stele on the opposite side of the river was the work of the Neo-Babylonian king Nebuncadnezzar II (604-562 BC). Rameses II left no less than three inscriptions between 1290 and 1224 BC, when he marched into Phoenicia.
🌿🥾 HIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy, 4 to 6 for intermediate, 7 to 9 for strenuous
Our hike will be one level:
🥈 We will walk approximately 10 km, level 4 plus, for about 3 hours and 45 minutes. There will be a breakfast stop at Jamile Bakery in Qornet el Hamra. We will start the hike at the main entrance, which will lead us to a beautiful border river carved by water millions of years ago. You can take as many photos as you like there. From there, we’ll proceed to the impressive water mill and the great stone bridge that still dominates the scene, offering a stunning view over the gorge.
If time permits at the end of the hike, we will visit the ancient Monastery of Mar Abda Mochammar (Saint Abda the Guardian), located atop the mountain. It was built near a pagan temple over an old grotto and has been considered a site of pilgrimage and devotion for generations. The monastery is an oasis of peace. The grotto is reputed to be miraculous, often sought after to grant fertility to women who are sterile.
