DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT:
=========================
Dear explorers,
Today we will be heading to the sacred mountains of Lebanon, as our trip will be dedicated to spirituality and religious tourism.
The first visit will be Saint Maroun’s monastery Annaya, where Saint Charbel lived. The saint was a Maronite monk and priest in the 19th century. During his life, he obtained a wide reputation for holiness, and for his ability to unite Christians and Muslims.
Saint Charbel was beatified by Pope Paul VI in 1965 in the Vatican City, Rome.
Following this visit we’ll head to Lehfed to visit the house of the blessed Estephan Nehme, who was born in the late 19th century, he was a monk known for the many blessings he gave to believers and for the devoted charity work he offered for those suffering from famine in world war 1. Nehme’s beatification took place in Lebanon in 2010 and Archbishop Angelo Amato presided the celebration on the Pope Benedict XVI’s behalf.
Lunch will be served in a traditional restaurant in the village, surrounded by a serene natural setting.
Last but not least, the final visit will be to Our Lady of Elige in Mayfouk, one of the oldest seats of the Maronite patriarchate. The historic old church of the monastery was built in 1121 on the ruins of a pagan temple, which is said to have been dedicated to Eil or Venus-Astarté.
Before moving to Annaya, at age 23, Saint Charbel left home and started walking to the Monastery of Our Lady of Mayfouk to become a novice. The Monastery of Our Lady of Mayfouk (Deir Saydet Mayfouk) was the second seat of the Maronite Patriarch in Lebanon. The ancient stone church is believed to be one of the oldest monasteries in Lebanon.
After the visit, we will pass by women villagers producing natural homemade goods and local preserves.
NB: This tour encourages inner peace, goodwill and faith, what many of us need during this difficult phase happening in the world and specifically in Lebanon.
Keep on exploring!
