DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT: ======================= Dear explorers, Today we will head to South Lebanon, Tyre. This ancient city is known to be a major Phoenician city, where a famous purple dye was produced and trade was flourishing across the Mediterranean from the city’s port. We will start our trip by visiting the Unesco heritage land site, the grand hippodrome, the triumphal arch, and the necropolis. Our second stop will be the maritime Unesco site, with Byzantine/Roman ruins, columns of the cardo Maximus, and remains of a crusader castle. The two historical sites are very well preserved and will give you a feeling of travel through time. Following that, the Christian quarter and old town will be our destination. You’ll enjoy a walking tour through the mazed colorful streets of old Tyre. This was the original island city during the Phoenician era. We’ll visit our lady of the seas and discover the Byzantine ruins discovered underneath the church. Lunch will be served at a famous and beautiful al mina, next to the fishermen’s port. Lots of fresh seafood and Mezza options await you there! After lunch, we will have the chance of visiting Sarafand, which is famous for its glass blowing crafts, practiced the traditional way since Phoenician times. By this trip, we are encouraging cultural and sustainable tourism in Lebanon. As part of sustainable and responsible tourism, a visit will be dedicated today to the local women of Ras El-Ein near Tyre, the women of this village produce mouneh, and traditional sweets famous to their town. By that, we will get to know this beautiful and relatively unknown village, and support women by buying their natural products. Keep on exploring!
