Historians believe that the Greek name of the town originates from the Phoenician word\, bater\, which means to cut and it refers to the maritime wall that the Phoenicians built in the sea to protect them from tidal waves.\nAnfeh is an old town that goes to the Canaanite-Phoenician era. It was mentioned as “Ambi” in Tall-El-Amarina letters\, in the 14th century B.C. It was also mentioned in the Assyrian engravings during the reign of King Asr-Hadoun (681-669 B.C).\nDuring the Greek-Roman era\, Anfeh was mentioned as “Trieres”\, which means the ship with three rows of oars.\nIn the Byzantine Empire\, “Trieres” was mentioned in a wider aspect. It was a patriarchal center\, and its pastor participated in the Council of Chalcedon in 451 A.C. It was destroyed by the earthquake that hit the Mediterranean eastern coast in the middle of the 6th century (551 A.C).\nIn the seventh century AC\, Anfeh became a part of the Arab empire. It was mentioned in the Hadith of Prophet Mohammed that Anfeh was a strong barrier in the Roman sea. It is also known that Muawiya\, the founder of the Umayyad dynasty\, built a part of his military fleet in it.\nThe Crusades occupied Anfeh early in the 12th century. They called it “Nafin” and rebuilt its marine citadel [The Citadel of Anfeh].\nIn 1289 A.C\, Al-Mamaleek lead by Sultan Qalawun obliged the Crusades to withdraw from Anfeh. They destroyed its marine citadel and threw part of its stones in the sea. Afterward\, they made Anfeh the center of a district consisting of Al-Koura and Bcharreh areas.\nDuring the Ottoman occupation\, Anfeh became the administrative center for the Side of Anfeh that consisted of 13 villages and 14 farms. Later\, it became the center of Qaza Al-Koura (district of Al-Koura) during winter\, and a Serail [The Old Serail] was built in its southern area.\nDuring the French mandate\, Anfeh was an important base. During World War II\, a military airport was built in Al-Sawdat\, southern Anfeh.\nSince the independence of Lebanon\, in 1943\, Anfeh has been playing a significant role in different social\, academic\, political\, and economic aspects of the country. \n🥇 🌿🥾 Our event will start with a visit to Mseilha Fortress and head towards the Dam and Lakes with amazing scenery of the Spring magical touch on the trees in the valley of Nahr El Jozz. The bus will then take you to Anfeh \n🥈 Our tour\, due to its privileged location on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea; will be an easy and beautiful trail at Anfeh. A huge 🔭 panoramic breathtaking view and even the sea can be 👓 seen when weather conditions are especially good. It is not to be missed.\nYanouh\, once a ⚱️Phoenician center\, is halfway between Byblos and Baalbek\, their Phoenician temple\, is a monument to the same religion as that of Apheca\, but the later Roman temple was dedicated to Diana\, the Roman goddess of the hunt and daughter of the god Jupiter.\nYanouh is known for its 2nd century CE 🏛 Roman temple\, its 🪙 Byzantine basilica\, and medieval chapel. In 750 AD\, at the time of the fifth Maronite patriarch\, John Maron II\, then installed in Yanouh\, the Roman temple was converted into a church consecrated to Saint George The blue. Between 750 and 1277\, twenty-three successors of Patriarch John Maroun resided there; under the Crusades\, the number of Yanouh’s inhabitants had risen to 3500\, Yanouh is also notable for its Hellenistic cult building containing the earliest Aramic inscription found in Lebanon. it mentions a “House of God” and was dated to around 110-109 BCE.\nTell el Kharayeb (“Hill of Ruins”) remains in Yanouh date back to the third millennium BCE; these include a town of about 150 meters in diameter\, surrounded by a defensive wall and a lower urban quarter extending towards the south of the site. \n🌿🥾 HIKING LEVEL: 1 to 3 for easy\, 4 to 6 for intermediate\, 7 to 9 for strenuous\nOur hike will be divided into 3 levels.\n🥈 This hike is easy for LEVEL 6 and is about 12 km long. The hike starts at Akoura village\, the trail is mostly straight and uphill at the beginning\, straight in the middle\, and descendent and straight at the end. You will visit many ancient historical churches\, Mar Saba\, Mar Geryes\, Mar Botros\, Mar Semaan (Roman temple)\, and the Roman road. You will visit Saydet el Habs located upon the peak overlooking marvelous views like in Harissa\, you will get the feeling of being on top of the world! Then you will descend a staircase of 600 steps and walk through an apple orchard\, then head to the Ozor forest of Mar Edna. We will have lunch there\, later will visit the ancient nun’s monastery and descend a Phoenician Roman dirty road and walk through an apple orchard\, to reach the Ozor forest of Tell El Kharyeb. There will meet with the level 4 and will explore the Phoenician\, Greek\, and Roman Temples and the ancient Saydet Yanoun Church ام الله.\n🥇 LEVEL 4\, is about 8 km long. The same trail as level 6 but after visiting the ancient nun’s monastery\, will separate and will join by bus the other at Yanouh Temples and will explore our treasure.\n🥇 If you prefer an easier hike LEVEL 3\, you have the possibility to stay at Saydet el Habs after the visit so you will have enough time to contemplate charming horizons at this altitude and you will have lunch there. A big Cross stands there overlooking the area.\nIt will be the perfect place for hiking\, will be a moderate one with some downhill\, will walk around the borders of the cliff to reach the river of 🐕 Nahr El Kaleb; will have enough time for fun\, photo shooting\, and rest. \nWe will gather at 7:45 AM in front of the Nahr el Kaleb concrete bridge in Dbayeh (river side) and start our march towards the Rock of Nahr el Kaleb (Open Museum). Afterwards\, we will take the staircase over the tunnel to reach the foothill overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The views are remarkable — don’t miss them! \nThe historical inscriptions found at the mouth of the Nahr-el-kalb (Dog River\, the Lycus of the Romans) represent a unique combination of history and geography.\nA total of 17 plaques have been traced\, all on the south bank except for one on the north bank. The single stele on the opposite side of the river was the work of the Neo-Babylonian king Nebuncadnezzar II (604-562 BC). Rameses II left no less than three inscriptions between 1290 and 1224 BC\, when he marched into Phoenicia.\n🌿🥾 HIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy\, 4 to 6 for intermediate\, 7 to 9 for strenuous\nOur hike will be one level:\n🥈 We will walk approximately 10 km\, level 4 plus\, for about 3 hours and 45 minutes. There will be a breakfast stop at Jamile Bakery in Qornet el Hamra. We will start the hike at the main entrance\, which will lead us to a beautiful border river carved by water millions of years ago. You can take as many photos as you like there. From there\, we’ll proceed to the impressive water mill and the great stone bridge that still dominates the scene\, offering a stunning view over the gorge.\nIf time permits at the end of the hike\, we will visit the ancient Monastery of Mar Abda Mochammar (Saint Abda the Guardian)\, located atop the mountain. It was built near a pagan temple over an old grotto and has been considered a site of pilgrimage and devotion for generations. The monastery is an oasis of peace. Some researchers argue that the name stems from the words “haret” (alley) and 🕊️ “deen” (religion)\, owing to the numerous places of worship (approximately 30 💒 churches and monasteries) in the village.\nIn addition\, the 💒 headquarters of the Maronite Patriarchate was located in Hardine before it was moved to Wadi Qannoubine.\nThe town was originally named “Kfour Al-Arabi\,” in reference of being the residence of many 🏺 old generations. The name was then modified according to the accent of the local population to Kfour Al-Arabi. Later we will take an easy downhill trail to the old monastery of our Lady of ILIGE (1120 AD); an ancient church located in Mayfouk -Jbeil\, it was the Maronite patriarchal seat for hundreds of years and nowadays it is turn to a national archeological site. It is one of the corners of the holy triangle of Saint Charbel and Sainte Rafka and Saint Hardini. From there the path is downhill and will lead you to Mayfook spring to meet the bus once again. It is a great place to end the hike!\nThen\, we will visit Saint Charbel Cave (Roman Fortress)\, where he used to pray\, followed by a walk to Mar Saba\, an abandoned church. The breathtaking scenery upon reaching these landscapes is truly spectacular. We will follow an easy path\, passing by Deir Mar Geryes\, a beautiful spot where you can see a clay-made Tannour. The views from there are fantastic\, with Batroun and Jbeil clearly visible.\nOur lunch will be nearby; after which we will head towards the upper part of Osbeh village. Later\, we will take an easy downhill trail to the old Monastery of Our Lady of Elige (1120 AD)\, an ancient church located in Mayfouk-Jbeil. This site served as the Maronite patriarchal seat for centuries and is now a designated archaeological site. It is one of the corners of the holy triangle of Saint Charbel\, Sainte Rafka\, and Saint Hardini.\nThe trail continues downhill\, leading us to Mayfouk Spring\, where we will meet the bus once again.\nFrom there we will continue by bus to Qattara to visit Deir Mar Challita (1848 AD). Dale ❤️ Corazon has prepared a hiking event in Bziza – Darbechtar\, a picturesque area in the South-Eastern periphery of Koura. The area is ideal for hiking thanks to plenty of wonderful 🥾 trails passing through breathtaking landscapes. During our trek\, we will also see plenty of Lebanese ⚱️old heritage houses\, ruins\, caves\, 💒 ancient churches\, in addition to 🏛 Roman remains. \nThe trail begins in Bziza\, a village that is 75 kilometers from Beirut and lies at an altitude of 400 meters. Its name is of Phoenician origin and means “the stolen village”. According to archeologists\, Bziza stands over a former village that was destroyed by earthquakes. Bziza is home to the ruins of a Roman temple\, with three walls (measuring 5m in height) remaining\, as well as some ancient pillars\, the remains of other ancient structures\, old pottery fragments and two oil lamps.\nNearby\, is a barrel-vaulted Byzantine chapel of St. Elias with its beautiful medieval wall painting. \nCrossing by Wata Fares the trail continues onto the neighboring village of Darbechtar\, which is famous for its lush 🌳olive trees that covers much of the area. The name of this village is composed of two Aramaic words: Dar and Ishtar\, meaning the House of Astarte. It is believed that the village was the site of an ancient 🏺 Phoenician shrine for the Goddess of Fertility. \n🌿🥾 HIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy\, 4 to 6 for intermediate\, 7 to 9 for strenuous\nOur hike will be divided into 2 levels. \n🥈 Advanced Level (13 KMs approx.) will start their walk from the temple of Bziza and continue to the village of Wata Fares\, where they will reach a hill with panoramic views. Then\, they will continue to the historic Mar Shallita monastery\, before heading uphill on a trail that takes them to the center of the village. In the village\, many sites will be seen\, including the famed Mar Elias cave. Afterward\, the hikers will take a spectacular trail taking them to the end of the village. \n🥇 Intermediate level (9 KMs) will also start at the temple of Bziza and follow the same trail as Advanced\, but will end their hike inside Darbechtar. A part of the water is pumped for domestic use in Batroun and the region. But you will be charmed above all\, by the various types of trees along the river banks\, especially the 🧅 walnut trees that grow in preference close to the water and which have given the river its name. There\, we will have our lunch.\nHistorically\, Nahr El Jawz valley was the only possible way through which armies could reach Batroun and for that reason fortress of Msaylha was built by Emir Fakhredine II in the 17th century to protect Batroun from enemy attacks.\nThe valley offers a varied landscape and it’s considered one of the most enchanting for hiking in Batroun Caza. \n🌿🥾 HIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy\, 4 to 6 for intermediate\, 7 to 9 for strenuous.\nOur hike will be divided into 2 levels: \n🥇 Due to the topography of the ground and walking beside the river\, you are bound to descend and ascend minor slopes\, so the hike will be a Level 4 (9.5 Km)\, it will be easy.\nThe trail offers many scenic spots and adventure. (18$/person)\nEvery 3 coupons can be exchanged for a free hiking trip. \n📜 DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT:\n========================== \nGhosta is a Lebanese village that 🔭 overlooks the bay of Jounieh with breathtaking panoramic views that stretch from Tripoli to Beirut. \nMost of the 🥾 trail we will pass by\, are known for its 🌴 pine trees that surround the village\, and embrace the 🌳 oaks\, and olive trees while hiking and the unique rocks. \nWe will walk in the narrow streets to see some ⚱️ old landmarks\, such as the old olive trees\, 💧 water springs\, 🪜 wooden bridges and the 💒 old churches including Deir Baklouch\, Deir Mar Youhanna El Kreim in Ghosta and Jabal El Rahme\, and finally\, Deir Ain Warka. \n⛰ Jabal El Rahme – Mount of Mercy\nNestled within the Mount of Mercy project\, the tallest statue of Jesus ✝️ Christ. This project comprises a chapel dedicated to “Mother Teresa” and a museum honoring Saint John Paul II. The statue’s total height reaches 22 meters\, inclusive of its 10-meter base. \n💒 Ain Warka Monastery (Mar Antonios)\nThe Ain Warka Monastery is a 🏺 historical landmark located in the town of Ain Warka\, boasting a rich history dating back to the 13th century when it was initially constructed by Maronite monks. Once serving as a hub for learning\, it has now become a favored destination for individuals passionate about religious tourism and history. \nThis place represents the best image of the old lifetime in Lebanon. \n🌿🥾 HIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy\, 4 to 6 for intermediate\, 7 to 9 for strenuous.\nThe trail will start from Sahel Alma where will see a panoramic 🌫️ view the whole Gulf of Jounieh and Beirut cityscape can be seen\, later will visit Mar Youhanna El Kreim\, then we will begin 🚶 walking down through the 🌳🌴 pine and oak forest into a magnificent tunnel\, and our hike will be divided to two levels: \n🥇 Level 4 plus Around 8 Km\, Deir Mar Youhanna El Kreim\, will take a mostly easy path with beautiful landscapes. On our way to Deir Ain Warka\, we will 👓witness also old houses\, wooden bridges and water springs. \n🥈 Level 5 Around 11 km\, starting from Sahel Alma where we will split into both groups per level. Will take uphill trail to get to the top of the hill to watch 📷 panoramic views.
