We will get the chance to walk the valley along the riverbank of Nahr El Jawz with the Golden trees on a road dated back to the Roman Empire\, where we can take a lot of unforgettable pictures.\nTannourine is home to over 17 villages such as Tannourine el Fawqa\, Wata Houb\, el Wadi\, Tannourine el Tahta\, and many other wonderful villages.\nWe will visit the old Crusade church aged more than 1000 years and then start our hiking journey.\nHIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy\, 4 to 6 for intermediate\, 7 to 9 for strenuous\nThere will be divided into three levels:\nOur hiking for level 4: it’s downhill\, an easy and beautiful trail of just 7 KM. From the old church\, we will continue along a trail leading to old mills\, then to the river. We will also be able to see rare views particular to this altitude terrain. The stunning mountainous landscape\, with cedars and pine forests seemingly defying gravity and growing on extremely vertical slopes\, is impressive; the scenery is great.\nAfter crossing Wata Houb the scenery changes from this stage. We will pass through a dense forest of different kinds of trees\, giving the impression of being in a jungle. Will be charmed above all by the trees along the river banks and the walnut trees which grow in preference close to the water and which have given the river its name.\nThe track will take us to “Tannourine Natural Spring Mineral Water” in El Wadi village; Maybe will visit the company and benefit from an explication of all the processes of water production.\nOur lunch will be under oak trees near the riverbank at El Wadi village. \nThen we will continue with level 5 (just 12 KM) from the village of El Wadi and head towards the river bank until we reach the bridges and mills of Tannourine Tahta village at Tahoun Bassa. The Monastery of Qozhaya (Deir Mar Antonios Qozhaya – دير مارانطﻮنيوﺱ ﻗﺰحيا) sits on the opposite flank of the Qadisha from Qannoubin Monastery; it was first built at the beginning of the fourth century. It was several times looted\, set on fire and razed to the ground\, but there still remain vestiges dating back to the seventh century.\nThe Monastery is truly a national center of prayer\, pilgrimage and tourism. It comprises a corridor\, meeting room\, museum and chapel\, with a mill and a number of hermitages cut into the rock nearby. The story of the Monastery is the story of the Christians in Lebanon and in the Middle East\, the story of cultural\, economical\, social and political development in the Lebanese society and in the region.\nAfter about 1700 years\, the Monastery continues to be a sign of faith and an expression of behavior.\nIt must be mentioned here that the Monastery of Qozhaya possesses a library containing archives\, scholarly compendia and Syriac manuscripts. The first printing press in the Middle East (1584) was placed in this Monastery which still has the Scepter of St Louis\, the King of France (1226-1270).\nAll the above-mentioned wealth\, whether natural or cultural\, pushed the UNESCO to register Monastery of St. Anthony Qozhaya on the list of International Patrimony under the number 850.\nHIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy\, 4 to 6 for intermediate\, 7 to 9 for strenuous. \nLEVEL 4 (around 7 km) will start from the village of Bane. After the visit\, you will take a downhill easy trail for about 300 m. From there\, you will continue our path of 3 km downhill to the valley\, cut the path of a thick forest\, and cross the beautiful waterfalls in the River of the Qadisha\, and many of the ruins of old houses\, stone bridges and hermitages until we reach the Monastery of Qozhaya where the lunch break will take.\nFrom there you will take the bus to visit the historical “St. Michael’s Church”. There shrine the mortal remains of the parish priest Yousef Abi Maroun Maatouq (1847-1929)\, a Godly priest whose remains are still whole\, knowing no decay until now.\nAfter the visit you will take the bus to join the level 6 in the village of Fraydis. \nLEVEL 5 (around 13 km) After the visit to the Monastery\, you will have a long downhill hike for about 200 meters\, seeing old cave churches. The trail will continue to Fraydis where you meet the other group at the village and continue together. The trail passes through “Sikket Al Sham”\, an ancient road that was used to join the coast to the Bekaa Valley\, to Damascus\, and then to El-Jouwar with an uphill and downhill trail for about 50 m only where an amazing forest rich in flora and fauna exists. Then we will continue the second part of our path of 1 km\, crossing many ruins of old houses and Hadrian’s inscriptions till we arrive at an upper top view of Tannourine\, Kfour el-Arbe\, Niha\, Batriarkiie Cedars\, and Nahr El-Jawz at Qornet El-Ribaz. There we will enjoy the fresh air and watch the beautiful summer sunset. The stunning mountainous landscape\, with extremely vertical slopes\, is impressive. The scenery is just great. We will come back by another straight trail. \nLevel 5 (6 KM – 3 Hours approx.) will continue up to the top of Sheer El-Ribaz\, the view there is beyond the imagination. Douma is also derived from the Latin word “Doman” used to designate a Queen (Julia Domna) famous for her beauty and intelligence. Douma’s pronunciation derives as well from the Hebrew language word of “doumah” meaning calm and rest. Almost all its houses are made of red brick which makes Douma a famous place. \nWe will start the hike in Balaa\, and then we will go up to the top: it’s between Jabal Douma and Jabal Tartej. The view from up there is breathtaking\, not to be missed! \nAfterward\, we will go ahead to Douma\, crossing ‘AL Ouadi; the trail passes through “Sikket Al-Sham”\, the ancient road that was used to join the coast to the Bekaa Valley\, and then to Damascus where we will visit different Roman wells.
