Dale Corazon has prepared a new hiking event in Bziza – Darbechtar\, a picturesque area in the South-Eastern periphery of Koura. The area is ideal for hiking thanks to plenty of wonderful trails passing through breathtaking landscapes. During our trek\, we will also see plenty of Lebanese old heritage houses\, ruins\, caves\, ancient churches\, in addition to Roman remains.    \n  \nThe trail begins in Bziza\, a village that is 75 kilometers from Beirut and lies at an altitude of 400 meters. Its name is of Phoenician origin and means “the stolen village”. According to archeologists\, Bziza stands over a former village that was destroyed by earthquakes. Bziza is home to the ruins of a Roman temple\, with three walls (measuring 5m in height) remaining\, as well as some ancient pillars\, the remains of other ancient structures\, old pottery fragments and two oil lamps. \nNearby\, is a barrel-vaulted Byzantine chapel of St. Elias with its beautiful medieval wall painting. \n  \nCrossing by Wata Fares the trail continues onto the neighboring village of Darbechtar\, which is famous for its lush olive trees that covers much of the area. The name of this village is composed of two Aramaic words: Dar and Ishtar\, meaning the House of Astarte. It is believed that the village was the site of an ancient Phoenician shrine for the Goddess of Fertility. \n  \nHIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy\, 4 to 6 for intermediate\, 7 to 9 for strenuous \nOur hike will be divided into 2 levels. \n  \nAdvanced Level (13 KMs) will start their walk from the temple of Bziza and continue to the village of Wata Fares\, where they will reach a hill with panoramic views. Then\, they will continue to the historic Mar Shallita monastery\, before heading uphill on a trail that takes them to the center of the village. In the village\, many sites will be seen\, including the famed Mar Elias cave. Afterward\, the hikers will take a spectacular trail taking them to the end of the village. \nIntermediate (9 KMs) will also start at the temple of Bziza and follow the same trail as Advanced\, but will end their hike inside Darbechtar. The two levels will meet inside the village at Mar Elias cave which is unique because of the seven layers that constitute it\, where they will have lunch all together. \n  \n  \nWHAT TO TAKE: \n============                  \n  \nHealthy snacks that will boost up your energy such as dried fruits\, lunch\, water\, cap\, sunglasses\, and sunscreen. Wear comfortable walking shoes (A Professional brand is recommended) and don’t forget to get a light jacket. It is crucial to discover and realize the importance of our traditional and old Lebanese industries. \nBeit Chabab whose name derived from its Syriac origin means “the neighbor’s house”. \nCharacterized by its traditional old houses\, the village attracts the attention of both the international and local media. Many of the old\, famous and grand mansions were portrayed or drawn up by artists who represented the village as a fine symbol of Lebanese tradition\, a feature also found in another village like Aintoura\, Beit Mery\, Dhour Chweir. \nIt is often said that Beit Chabab is among the seven most beautiful villages found in Lebanon. \nThe history of the Beit Chabab’s handicraft industries\, mentioned above\, dates back to the 18th century.  Here\, the manufacturers of the pottery\, bell\, textile and silk industries represent well known features of the town and are mentioned in almost every student history book used in Lebanese schools. The old houses that were used to host the textile inventory\, known in Arabic as DIMA\, are the oldest and most famous fabric industry that used to supply the local market\, and also go for export. Now lie forsaken. \nThe Tirki family which has traditionally worked in this domain has both its older and younger generation members located outside Lebanon.  \nThe Naffa’a family still working in the bell industry now faces competition from the more modern and electrically run manufacturers. \nFinally\, the village inhabitants themselves are religious minded and true believers.  Fifteen old churches are found within the village\, as well as a monastery with well -established clergy personnel.  It is rare to find in Lebanon a village with such a high number of churches. \nHIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy\, 4 to 6 for intermediate\, 7 to 9 for strenuous \nOur hike Level 4 plus 10 km\, it will be a combination of walking in Beit chabeb village\, the vast forests and crossing water sources\, old houses and old narrow stone staircases.\nWe will begin from the village then to the vast forests to visit the hermitage of St. Roukoz at neighboring village called Mar Botros. Later on\, we will visit the old abandoned textile factory which was running at the Othomans governing period. Then we will take the bus and go to see the bells factory of Naffaa family. \nBeit Chabeb hike is not just a hike in a very beautiful village\, along streams\, ponds\, huge trees\, among old houses\, old narrow stone staircases and breathtaking views. It is a cultural tour as well. \nFor Level 2 it’s a tour only\n\n\nDon’t let any adventure go by untried. Live your life to the fullest! \n  \nWHAT TO TAKE: \n============                  \n  \nHealthy snacks that will boost up your energy such as dried fruits\, lunch\, water\, cap\, sunglasses and sunscreen. Wear comfortable walking shoes (Professional brand is recommended) and don’t forget to get a light jacket. DC members get a 20% discount on sports equipment in Sports 4 Ever branches. \n==There will be a breakfast stop along the way== \n  \n  \nFOR RESERVATION AND INFO: \n======================= \n  \nPlease Call 00961-70-986118 / 00961-70-997062 and by sending SMS\, or WhatsApp mention your name\, surname and the event you wish to join us on. \n  \nNOTE: \n===== \nThank you for not smoking during the trip and following all the ecotourism rules including safety regulations (hikers are advised to join our events to their own responsibility). The valley is a deep gorge carved by the Kadisha River\, also known as the Nahr Abu Ali when it reaches Tripoli. Kadisha means “Holy” in Aramaic\, and the valley\, sometimes called the Holy Valley\, has sheltered Christian monastic communities for many centuries. The Valley which harbors the most ancient Christian monasteries in the world is on the verge of being radiated from the World Heritage list because of serious plagues that are destroying it. \n  \nHistory \n  \nAnnoubine’s history dates back to the 7th century. It has monasteries and sanctuaries spread all over the gorge\, in the form of caves or churches. \nSince the early centuries of Christianity\, the Holy Valley has served as a refuge for those in search of solitude. Historians believe that the Kadisha Valley has had monastic communities continuously since the earliest years of Christianity. It was also at times a destination for Muslim mystics\, or Sufis\, who also visited it for meditation and solitude. \n  \n  \nDESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT: \n=======================                                                                                      \nHIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy\, 4 to 6 for intermediate\, 7 to 9 for strenuous \nThe hike offers three levels:\nLevel 3 (5 km\, Approx.)\, easy trail from Hawka village till Deir Saydet Qannoubine.\nLevel 4 (10 km\, Approx.)\, we will start from Hawka\, visit the hermit\, St. Marina and Deir Saidet Annoubine. The Aassi Hawka (cave) in particular\, has yielded archaeological items indicating Palaeolithic\, Roman\, and medieval periods of use. A Colombian hermit now resides there. We will have the chance to visit him.\n \nDeir Saidet Annoubine:\nThis is one of the oldest Monasteries in Lebanon. The monastery was built in a rocky pit\, most probably by Byzantine emperor Theodos the Great in 379 – 395. Deir Annoubine monastery was to become the seat of the Maronite Patriarch in the 15th century and to remain so for 500 years. The monastery was rehabilitated in 1990 and is now used by the Antonine Sisters who welcome pilgrims to spend the night.\nSt. Marina:\nThe chapel of St. Marina now holds the tombs of eighteen patriarchs. The chapel of St. Marina stands in the memory of a girl named Marina who entered Annoubine monastery disguised as a monk. (The whole story will be told during the hike). \n  \n  \nWHAT TO TAKE: \n============                  \n  \nHealthy snacks that will boost up your energy such as dried fruits\, lunch\, water\, cap\, sunglasses and sunscreen. Hadath could mean the new town. \nHadad was the northwest Semitic storm and rain God and the town could have had a temple dedicated to this God. And the popular tradition claims that the church dedicated to the saint patron of Hadath\, Saint Daniel\, was built on the remnants of a pagan temple. \nJebbeh is the traditional name of the Kadisha region\, called also Jebbet Bsharri in reference to Bsharri the largest town of this region. The Semitic root Gb means well\, deep and could be a reference to the deep gorges of the Kadisha. \nIn Lebanon\, another Jebbeh exists like Jebbet Mnaytra and Jebbet Yanuh. \nHadath is a very ancient settlement. Maronites settled there in the 9th Century A.D. after fleeing the Orontes valley. The town knew its importance during the Crusades. It was destroyed at the end of the 13th Century A.D. by the Mamluk army. Going to this period\, 8 Maronite mummies of inhabitants were found in a nearby grotto\, the Assi of Hadath. After its destruction\, the town recovered and regained some importance till the end of the 16th Century A.D. \nAs usual\, will be two groups: \nOur walk there will be in the vast white hills till we reach the Cedars Forest. Those who wish to have a moderate walk will pass around 6KM (2hours) from the main square of the village to the Cedars Forest there is time for rest and photo shooting. The others will take a longer path for about 9KM (3 hours) till they meet the first group in the Cedars Forest for lunch. There you will be able to contemplate that beautiful white landscape of the area.\nDon’t let any adventure go by untried. It is located in the North of Lebanon\, in Jbeil area\, and it is one of the highlights of ancient caves in Lebanon where you can take a lot of unforgettable pictures. \nIt is believed that some of these caves-churches are aged between 1000 to 2000 years old. These caves are very old and date for more than a thousand years. There are residues of frescos painted on the inner walls. \nThe stunning mountainous landscape\, with trees seemingly defying gravity and growing on extremely vertical slopes\, is impressive. You will also be able to see rare views particular to this altitude terrain. The scenery is great. \n  \nLevel 5 will continue to the cave church of Mar Antonios with 4 floors\, dating around 600 years old. It is a steep downhill walk to the church. You will return back on the same route to meet Level 4 and walk along a track rich in beautiful views and you will have lunch under huge oak trees\, beside St. Peter and Paul Church. \n  \nLater on\, you will visit “Mar Takla”\, a historical church in “Shamat” village built in the Second Century B.C. from the remains of Roman ruins. \n  \nDiversified? Yes!!!!! The hidden treasures and beauty of Lebanon are yet to be discovered \n  \n  \n  \nWHAT TO TAKE: \n============                  \n  \nHealthy snacks that will boost your energy include dried fruits\, lunch\, water\, cap\, sunglasses\, and sunscreen.
