The magnificent green forest mixed with oak\, pine and many other plant species makes the valley one of the best in the world. \nAwwali River is located between Mount Lebanon and the South; Bisri River is a part of it. Our walk beside it is just amazing. The scenery will definitely mark our minds and souls with its colorful\, fresh and beautiful nature all day long. \nWe will walk a splendid trail beside the river; we will see very old olive trees. We will cross many bridges; the most famous one is the Roman Stairway and will go across a Roman passage of striking beauty inside the cliff and then we will go to Marej Bisri\, the magic valley. \nHIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy\, 4 to 6 for intermediate\, 7 to 9 for strenuous \nEl Marej is a wonderful place for hiking; our hike will be divided into 2 levels: \nLEVEL 4 (approx.9km) it is a downhill and straight beautiful trail. Will start from Roman Stairway at 620 meters elevation. We will experience the fascinating Lebanese wild nature with its colorful trees and herbs\, chirping birds\, fresh breeze and rushing water. The scenery is really beyond description. We will have enough time for meditation\, photo shooting and fun. We will have lunch at the bridge above Al Barouk River and then we will continue to Marj Bisri. \nLevel 5 (approx.13 km) is a bit tough. The view you get to see from the valley is beyond imagination. Will start from Mazraat El Chouf village at 825 meters elevation and take a trail between the old olives trees that leads to Roman Stairway. We will pass by many springs\, wells and cross many bridges. We will have lunch together beside the river\, rest a bit and then continue to Bisri village.   \nLevel 6 (approx.16 km) The extra part of that trail is Downhill at the beginning and at 920 meters elevation\, requires good physical strength. \nOn our way back to Beirut\, will may stop in Joun at Deir al Mokhales Monastery. It is an old and historical monastery atop a hill overlooking beautiful views. It was built in 1711\, and stands on an even older site. There is a beautiful church and a collection of icons\, manuscripts and religious objects with tomb of the monk Bchara Abou Mrad 1853-1930. \nDiversified? Yes! Our journey will start in Smar Jbeil. This name is the derivate of the Phoenician language\, which means “the guardian of Jbeil”. \nWe will visit a historical church “Al Sayde” (Ste Mary) built in the 6th Century\, and the citadel of Smar Jbeil dates back to the Phoenician era. After the visit\, will take the bus to St. Rafqa Monastery\, and visit the convent and the museum. The hike will be in Jrabta village at Wadi Harba\, the trail is filled with ancient cave churches\, ruins\, and where the Saints walked like (first Patriarch Saint John Maron\, St. Rafqa\, St. Hardini…). \nAt the end of the trail\, we will benefit from a swim in the Mediterranean Sea with clean transparent water as well. \nAs usual\, there will be two levels of difficulty. \nHIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy\, 4 to 6 for intermediate\, 7 to 9 for strenuous \nLevel 3: An easy walk (8 km\, approx. 3:00Hr) with very light descents. It is ideal for picture taking. The walk will take place at ‘’Darb St. Rafqa’’ or’’ Wadi Harba’’. At the end of the trail\, will benefit from a swim in the clean transparent water as well. \nLevel 5: About (11km\, approx. 3:30Hr) This level is strictly for advanced walkers; long delay is not an option.\nAfter reaching St Rafqa in Jrabta\, we will hike in a pine forest to reach a small church in the middle of the mountain surrounded by trees\, crossing an old spring. \nAfter visiting the forest\, will continue walking together on a stretch way to Harba valley. We will cross the first Patriarch Saint John Maron (685 A.C.) spring and historical caves Church\, in wild nature. Afterward\, will continue together along a trail offering many scenic spots and leading to the beach where we will swim and have fun there. Situated in the sub-prefecture of Minieh – Dinniyeh\, it shelters at least three Roman temples\, one of which has kept the original height of its walls. \n  \nIt’s one of the most beautiful hikes that will leave wonderful pictures in your memory. It was mentioned as “Ambi” in Tall-El-Amarina letters\, in the 14th century B.C. It was also mentioned in the Assyrian engravings during the reign of King Asr-Hadoun (681-669 B.C). \nDuring the Greek-Roman era\, Anfeh was mentioned as “Trieres”\, which means the ship with three rows of oars.  \nIn the Byzantine Empire\, “Trieres” was mentioned in a wider aspect. It was a patriarchal center\, and its pastor participated in the Council of Chalcedon in 451 A.C. It was destroyed by the earthquake that hit the Mediterranean eastern coast in the middle of the 6th century (551 A.C).  \nIn the seventh century AC\, Anfeh became a part of the Arab empire. It was mentioned in the Hadith of Prophet Mohammed that Anfeh was a strong barrier in the Roman sea. It is also known that Muawiya\, the founder of the Umayyad dynasty\, built a part of his military fleet in it. \nThe Crusades occupied Anfeh early in the 12th century. They called it “Nafin” and rebuilt its marine citadel [The Citadel of Anfeh]. \nIn 1289 A.C\, Al-Mamaleek lead by Sultan Qalawun obliged the Crusades to withdraw from Anfeh. They destroyed its marine citadel and threw part of its stones in the sea. Afterward\, they made Anfeh the center of a district consisting of Al-Koura and Bcharreh areas. \nDuring the Ottoman occupation\, Anfeh became the administrative center for the Side of Anfeh that consisted of 13 villages and 14 farms. Later\, it became the center of Qaza Al-Koura (district of Al-Koura) during winter\, and a Serail [The Old Serail] was built in its southern area.  \nDuring the French mandate\, Anfeh was an important base. During World War II\, a military airport was built in Al-Sawdat\, southern Anfeh. \nSince the independence of Lebanon\, in 1943\, Anfeh has been playing a significant role in different social\, academic\, political\, and economic aspects of the country. \nOur tour hike\, due to its privileged location on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea; will be an easy and beautiful trail at Anfeh. First\, we will go and take an easy path leading to “Saidet el Natour”\, an old historical monastery\, due to its strategic location it was invaded by all kinds of soldiers who passed through this area.\nLater on\, we will walk in the old village rich in ruins and caves and visit a very old Byzantine church (Our Lady of the wind) and the Citadel of Anfeh located on a peninsula known as “Rass Anfeh” and considered a Crusader residue characterized by its rock-cut channel (Al-Khandaq)\, we will encounter as well old graves\, mosaic pieces\, Salinas\, wind wheels\, hills\, caves olive presses\, and Phoenician salt pans\, where you can take a lot of unforgettable pictures. \nA tour inside the castle will take place before proceeding to Nabu\, a modern and exceptional museum in Chekka hosting a rare collection of mosaics and historical pieces from the Mediterranean coastline\, as well as permanent exhibitions by local artists. \nLater will head to Batroun\, crossing by Chekka tunnels\, (The Hidden Tunnels) which is currently one of the top tourism destinations in Lebanon\, overlooking the spectacular Mediterranean Sea\, reach in breathtaking views exposed to the sun. \nA delicious seafood sandwich lunch will follow in a popular seafood shop/restaurant in Batroun. \nOn our way back to Beirut\, we may stop to drink fresh Lemonade. \n  \nDiversified.? Dhour El-Choueir is important for its August yearly carnival\, honoring Lebanon’s emigrants. \nThe Greek Catholic monk Abd Allah Zakhir set up an Arabic language printing press using movable type at the monastery of Saint John at Choueir\, the first homemade press in Lebanon. He personally cut the type molds and did the founding of the elegant typeface. He created the first true Arabic script type in the Middle East. The first book off the Zakhir press was printed in 1734; this press continued to be used until 1899. \nIt is the birthplace of Anton Saadeh who founded the Syrian Social Nationalist Party and of Tanios Bou-Nader Khneisser\, the father of the Sword & Shield Folkloric Dance. \nIt will be our destination for this journey. We will walk down from Aabrine to Batroun.cc \nThe track is not hard. The walk will be around 2.3 hrs. to 3 hrs\, we will visit in our way the spring “Ain El Jdide” than “St Charbel cut off” (Mar Charbel Al Mokata3). The views are spectacular every step of the way\, till we get Batroun Village. \nFrom there will take the bus to Batroun\, to visit the historic “St. Stephan’s Cathedral”.  There walking in the old Souk\, will go to the “Phoenician fortress and wall” and visit “Our Lady of the Sea” to finish our walk at “Makaad el Mir” by the sea where we will take some magical photos.  \nAs usual\, we will end this night’s adventure with a cozy gathering around a drink at Hilmi’s House\, its Lemonade Drink prepared by local habitants. \nThis sunset hike must not be missed. Considered by many as one of Lebanon’s most picturesque towns\, Rachaya is a jewel in the Bekaa Valley. \n  \nRashaya is a most attractive little town seated on the western slopes of Mount Hermon. The township of Rashaya has always occupied a strategic position overlooking the et-Taim valley which is why the impressive and famous fortress was built. The citadel was in turn Canaanite\, Greco-Roman\, Arab\, Crusader and Ottoman. \nThis famous town\, famous in history and heritage but turned to the future\, offers visitors a delightful natural setting\, with its high plateau dominating the valley\, the terraced gardens\, thousand red-brick houses\, and its main street once paved in stone (each stone is numbered)\, now known as the “Souq” (market)\, leading up to the Citadel of Independence it’s the most important to see. There are four old churches (“Al Saydet”\, “Sayedat El Najat” and the oldest church in the region. It is “Mar Mousa el Habashi”\, and it is a Syriac-Catholic church. \nMhaidseh village is overlooking Mount Hermon (Jabal El Cheikh – Jabal El Tajalli)\, the Sacred Mountain of Lebanon. (13.5 $/person) \nMake your group of 5 persons (& more) and get a 10% discount (13.5$ per person). \n  \n  \nDESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT: \n======================                                                                                      \nQadisha\, one of the deepest and most beautiful valleys in Lebanon\, is indeed a world apart. “Qozhaya” is of Syriac origin and means “the treasure of Life“.                    \nThe Monastery of Qozhaya (Deir Mar Antonios Qozhaya – دير مارانطﻮنيوﺱ ﻗﺰحيا) sits on the opposite flank of the Qadisha from Qannoubin Monastery; it was first built at the beginning of the fourth century. It was several times looted\, set on fire and razed to the ground\, but there still remain vestiges dating back to the seventh century. \nThe Monastery is truly a national center of prayer\, pilgrimage and tourism. It comprises a corridor\, meeting room\, museum and chapel\, with a mill and a number of hermitages cut into the rock nearby. The story of the Monastery is the story of the Christians in Lebanon and in the Middle East\, the story of cultural\, economical\, social and political development in the Lebanese society and in the region.\nAfter about 1700 years\, the Monastery continues to be a sign of faith and an expression of behavior. \nIt must be mentioned here that the Monastery of Qozhaya possesses a library containing archives\, scholarly compendia and Syriac manuscripts. The first printing press in the Middle East (1584) was placed in this Monastery which still has the Scepter of St Louis\, the King of France (1226-1270). \nAll the above-mentioned wealth\, whether natural or cultural\, pushed the UNESCO to register Monastery of St. Anthony Qozhaya on the list of International Patrimony under the number 850. \nHIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy\, 4 to 6 for intermediate\, 7 to 9 for strenuous. \nLEVEL 4 (around 7 km) will start from Bane village. After the visit\, you will take a downhill easy trail for about 300 m. From there\, we will continue our path of 3 km downhill the valley\, the track cuts through a bushy forest\, crossing waterfalls and many ruins of old houses and hermitages till we arrive to the Monastery of Qozhaya where you will take your lunch break. From there you will take the bus to join level 6 at Fraydis village. \nLEVEL 5 (around12 km) After the visit to the Monastery\, you will have a long downhill hike for about 200 meters\, seeing old cave churches. The trail will continue to Fraydis where you meet the other group at the village and continue together. The trail goes a bit further downhill\, then it becomes straight all the way to Mazraet El-Nahr\, seeing the water dam\, Qadisha river\, some old shacks and wonderful views. \nFrom there you will take the bus to visit the historical “St. Michael’s Church”.  There shrine the mortal remains of the parish priest Yousef Abi Maroun Maatouq (1847-1929)\, a Godly priest whose remains are still whole\, knowing no decay until now.\n                                                                                                                                                   \n  \nWHAT TO TAKE: \n============                  \n  \nHealthy snacks that will boost your energy include dried fruits\, lunch\, water\, cap\, sunglasses\, and sunscreen. Nebuchadnezzar\, king of Babylon\, lay siege to the city for 13 years. Confronted by the water\, the greenery\, and the plunging falls\, you would imagine yourself in Paradise. It renders possible the cultivation of a number of small private properties\, watering the gardens and plots of farmland in Kfar Helda\, Beit Shlela\, and Bsetines el Ossi. The Ruins of many monasteries and churches are scattered around the villages. \n  \nIn this hike\, you will have many reasons to keep your cameras handy. From the moment you start hiking until the moment you stop\, there will be scenes you’ll want to cherish forever. \nHIKING LEVEL: 1 to 3 for easy\, 4 to 6 for intermediate\, 7 to 9 for strenuous. \n  \nOur hike will be divided into 2 levels: \nLevel 3-4; Medium – Easy level. Trail around 3 hours\, we will start from Kfar Hilda village at Naher El Jawz River and take the path near “Waterfalls” passing through trees and bushes that will lead you to the source\, and to the old St. Jean Monastery. We may benefit from a swim in the clean transparent water as well. Then we will hike to Mejdel\, we will see impressive waterfalls\, water streams\, and ancient footpaths. We will end up hiking next to the water channel in Mejdel. \nLevel 3-4 will reach the electricity company by bus; the exceptional Trail of stairs is there… 788 steps to heaven. \nLevel 5 (13 Km approx. 4:00Hr) The same trail as level 4\, the difference is; will reach the electricity company instead of Mejdel Village\, and continue back to Batroun. \n  \n  \nWHAT TO TAKE: \n============                  \n  \nHealthy snacks that will boost your energy include dried fruits\, lunch\, water\, cap\, sunglasses swimsuit\, towel\, and sunscreen. Wear comfortable walking shoes (A professional brand is recommended) and don’t forget to get a light jacket.
