Considered by many as one of Lebanon’s most picturesque towns\, Rachaya is a jewel in the Bekaa Valley. \n  \nRashaya is a most attractive little town seated on the western slopes of Mount Hermon. The township of Rashaya has always occupied a strategic position overlooking the et-Taim valley which is why the impressive and famous fortress was built. The citadel was in turn Canaanite\, Greco-Roman\, Arab\, Crusader and Ottoman. \nThis famous town\, famous in history and heritage but turned to the future\, offers visitors a delightful natural setting\, with its high plateau dominating the valley\, the terraced gardens\, thousand red-brick houses\, and its main street once paved in stone (each stone is numbered)\, now known as the “Souq” (market)\, leading up to the Citadel of Independence it’s the most important to see. There are four old churches (“Al Saydet”\, “Sayedat El Najat” and the oldest church in the region. It is “Mar Mousa el Habashi”\, and it is a Syriac-Catholic church. \nMhaidseh village is overlooking Mount Hermon (Jabal El Cheikh – Jabal El Tajalli)\, the Sacred Mountain of Lebanon. The scenery is great; the scenery is really beyond description. \nAlmost all its houses are made of red brick and black stone which makes Mhaidseh a famous place. \n  \n  \nHIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy\, 4 to 6 for intermediate\, 7 to 9 for strenuous \n  \nOur marches 4 (8 km approx.) easy to medium trail (approx. 2\,15Hr); we will start from Mhaydseh village\, discover the great landmarks\, pick some grapes\, take the path s\, passing through oak tree. The trail will lead us to the bus and then to Rashaya village. We will walk in the old souk\, discover the great landmarks and take a lot of pictures. After visiting the Citadel\, we will participate in the Debs festival where we can enjoy our time\, eat some delicious food\, and discover some new traditions. \n  \nFor level 3 will visit Mhaydseh\, Rashaya village and participate in Debs Festival. \n  \nRashaya’s hike is not just a hike in a very beautiful nature\, huge trees\, and breathtaking views. (13.5 $/person) \nMake your group of 5 persons (& more) and get a 10% discount (13.5$ per person). \n  \n  \nDESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT: \n======================                                                                                      \nQadisha\, one of the deepest and most beautiful valleys in Lebanon\, is indeed a world apart. “Qozhaya” is of Syriac origin and means “the treasure of Life“.                    \nThe Monastery of Qozhaya (Deir Mar Antonios Qozhaya – دير مارانطﻮنيوﺱ ﻗﺰحيا) sits on the opposite flank of the Qadisha from Qannoubin Monastery; it was first built at the beginning of the fourth century. It was several times looted\, set on fire and razed to the ground\, but there still remain vestiges dating back to the seventh century. \nThe Monastery is truly a national center of prayer\, pilgrimage and tourism. It comprises a corridor\, meeting room\, museum and chapel\, with a mill and a number of hermitages cut into the rock nearby. The story of the Monastery is the story of the Christians in Lebanon and in the Middle East\, the story of cultural\, economical\, social and political development in the Lebanese society and in the region.\nAfter about 1700 years\, the Monastery continues to be a sign of faith and an expression of behavior. \nIt must be mentioned here that the Monastery of Qozhaya possesses a library containing archives\, scholarly compendia and Syriac manuscripts. The first printing press in the Middle East (1584) was placed in this Monastery which still has the Scepter of St Louis\, the King of France (1226-1270). \nAll the above-mentioned wealth\, whether natural or cultural\, pushed the UNESCO to register Monastery of St. Anthony Qozhaya on the list of International Patrimony under the number 850. \nHIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy\, 4 to 6 for intermediate\, 7 to 9 for strenuous. \nLEVEL 4 (around 7 km) will start from Bane village. After the visit\, you will take a downhill easy trail for about 300 m. From there\, we will continue our path of 3 km downhill the valley\, the track cuts through a bushy forest\, crossing waterfalls and many ruins of old houses and hermitages till we arrive to the Monastery of Qozhaya where you will take your lunch break. From there you will take the bus to join level 6 at Fraydis village. \nLEVEL 5 (around12 km) After the visit to the Monastery\, you will have a long downhill hike for about 200 meters\, seeing old cave churches. The trail will continue to Fraydis where you meet the other group at the village and continue together. The history of the village goes way back to an era that is still obscure because of the absence of archeological and historical assets. \nThe ruins of Faqra\, the traditional Lebanese houses\, the old and new bridges\, and the remaining mills in the Valley of the Cross are the best proofs of the importance of the village and its rich historical originality. \nWe will hike around 10Km together in one group as level 4\, for just 3\,30 hours\, will start at Nabeh El-Laban\, it will lead us to a wonderful old natural bridge of rocks carved by water millions of years ago and there you can take as many of photos as you desire then to the impressive remains of a Roman temple and a citadel built on ancient foundations still dominate the scene\, giving a view over the astounding gorge. The second part of the trail at the Golden Ozer Forest is easy and open to a panoramic view. It is a triple natural bridge rising one above the other – the middle one is the most spectacular\, it has an estimated span of 32 meters. \nThe name Douma is of Greek origin meaning “house”\, “palace” or “castle”. Douma is also derived from the Latin word “Doman” used to designate a Queen (Julia Domna) famous for her beauty and intelligence. Douma’s pronunciation derives as well from the Hebrew language word of “doumah” meaning calm and rest. Almost all its houses are made of red brick which makes Douma a famous place. \nWe will start the hike in Balaa\, and then we will go up to the top: it’s between Jabal Douma and Jabal Tartej. The view from up there is breathtaking\, not to be missed! \nAfterward\, we will go ahead to Douma\, crossing ‘AL Ouadi; the trail passes through “Sikket Al-Sham”\, the ancient road that was used to join the coast to the Bekaa Valley\, and then to Damascus where we will visit different Roman wells. Many consider the location a challenge to reach since it takes you quite some time to reach the location. “Kornet El Sawda”\, is said to be the highest summit in the Middle East\, at 3085 m above sea level. The amazing scenery that your eyes catch upon reaching these amazing landscapes is indescribable. \nHIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy\, 4 to 6 for intermediate\, 7 to 9 for strenuous \nThe hike (level 6) is tough at about 20 km long\, our hike will start at an altitude of 2800 m from Oyoun Orghosh. \nAt the beginning we will have a smooth uphill hike for 120 m\, then we will walk in an off-road trail to reach the Square of Kornet el Sawda\, then prepare yourselves for a challenging 140m upwards towards the Black Beauty at the altitude of 3088m. We will have our lunch on the peak enjoying the breathtaking scenery. Today\, it is one of the tourist attractions in Lebanon\, being the place where the ancient god Adonis died\, and the river became red with his blood. \nThe valley offers a varied landscape and it’s considered one of the most enchanting for hiking in Jbeil Caza. \n  \nHIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy\, 4 to 6 for intermediate\, 7 to 9 for strenuous \nLevel 4 (6 km\, approx. 2:30Hr) will start from Yahchouch village near old houses and take the path in the village\, then downhill into the middle of the forest passing through trees and bushes where the views are remarkable. The trail will lead you to the marvelous waterfall and pond where will stop for a rest. Then will continue down to the river bank near another waterfall and pond for lunch\, relax under the shade of the trees and enjoy the sound of water. You may benefit from a swim in the clean transparent water as well.
