The history of the village goes way back to an era that is still obscure because of the absence of archeological and historical assets.\nThe ruins of Faqra\, the traditional Lebanese houses\, the old and new bridges\, and the remaining mills in the Valley of the Cross are the best proofs of the importance of the village and its rich historical originality.\nBqaatouta It is home for the Sannine bottled water company. The village is surrounded by the highest peaks of Metn and Keserwan and lies at the sources of the dog river (Nahr el Kalb) separating the two casas. We will see as well the old juniper trees and then go down to visit a great and ancient temple located near the waterfall and the impressive Afqa Grotto. There\, ritual prostitution was practiced until the time of Constantine in Afqa village.\nThe main feature of Lassa and Afqa is the beautiful rock formations spread throughout the villages. We will continue downhill to reach the most beautiful waterfalls in Lebanon exist. The word ‘Niha’ means a place of rest\, as it was once the Roman emperor’s summer place in Baalbeck. Niha is known for the 4 citadels dating back to the Roman Empire were constructed between the 1st and 3rd century AD\, with some even further back to the Byzantine and Phoenician eras. The citadels are grand\, which can be compared to those at Baalbeck\, albeit on a smaller scale. \nThe hike will begin from Niha where we will visit the well-preserved lower temple.\nAfter this\, we will divide into two groups: easy and intermediate. \n🌿🥾 HIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy\, 4 to 6 for intermediate\, 7 to 9 for strenuous/advanced \n🥈 Level 5 (approx. 3:30Hr) will continue to walk a bit uphill until they reach the upper temple El Hosn of Niha\, which is still upright but in very good condition. Stunning panoramic views of the Bekaa valley can be enjoyed from up there. Then the trail becomes a downhill walk all the way to Ferzol. \nOnce in Ferzol\, we will all go to Al-Habis to see ancient ruins and caves dating from the Canaanite\, Phoenician and Roman eras. The ruins are from a prehistoric empire that has been carved into the mountain as Cappadocia in Turkey\, famous for allegedly housing all the gold treasures of that empire! On the other side\, we will see the king’s chair\, wine presses\, and many historical remnants. \n🥈 Level 3 (approx. 2:30Hr) The same trail as level 5\, the difference is; will reach the upper temple El Hosn of Niha by bus. \nWe will have time to rest in the stunning nature of Ferzol before walking back to our bus and continuing back to Tannayel. \nSo our last stop will be at Domaine de Taanayel for a tour around the beautiful lakes and forest. Will start from Roman Stairway at 620 meters’ elevation. We will experience the fascinating Lebanese wild nature with its colorful trees and herbs\, chirping birds\, fresh breeze and rushing water. The scenery is really beyond description. We will have enough time for meditation\, photo shooting and fun. We will have lunch at the bridge above Al Barouk River and then we will continue to Marj Bisri.\n🥇 Level 5 (approx.13 km) is a bit tough. The view you get to see from the valley is beyond imagination. Will start from Mazraat El Chouf village at 825 meters’ elevation and take a trail between the old olives trees that leads to Roman Stairway. We will pass by many springs\, wells and cross many bridges. We will have lunch together beside the river\, rest a bit and then continue to Bisri village.\n🥈 Level 6 (approx.16 km) The extra part of that trail is Downhill at the beginning and at 920 meters’ elevation\, requires good physical strength.\nOn our way back to Beirut\, will may stop in Joun at Deir al Mokhales Monastery. It is an old and historical monastery atop a hill overlooking beautiful views. It was built in 1711\, and stands on an even older site. There is a beautiful church and a collection of icons\, manuscripts and religious objects with tomb of the monk Bchara Abou Mrad 1853-1930.\nDiversified? Yes! He travelled to Lebanon\, Syria and the Holy Land in 1832–33. Unquestionably\, the Lebanese mountains come into literature by Lamartine\, giving rise to the greatest number of descriptions of landscapes. Lebanon\, its mountains and ruins\, inspired the poet much of his “Episode” called “L’épopée de La Chute d’un ange” written in 1838. \nThe valley where we’re going is called the valley of Lamartine as a commemoration of that visit\, he describes the area in his book “Voyage en Orient”. Also\, the Lebanon Cedar forest still harbors the “Lamartine Cedar”\, which is said to be the Cedar under which Lamartine had sat 200 years ago. \n25 Kms from Beirut\, most of the villages we will pass by are known for its pine trees that surround the village\, it’s a source of valuable pine nuts. It is like passing through a tunnel of greenery and the views are breathtaking.\nHIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy\, 4 to 6 for intermediate\, 7 to 9 for strenuous\n🌿🥾 Our hike will be divided into 3 levels.\n🥈 LEVEL 4 About 8 Km\, will start from Sebaal village\, from an old historical church called Mar Doumit where Youssef Beik Karam defeated the Turks. We will take the path near “Shir el Ahmar”\, passing through tree forests that will lead us to Mazraet Rachtamout and the Church of Martmoura. After refilling our bottles with fresh water\, we will walk uphill and have lunch at Nabeh Ozit. Afterward\, we will take the bus to a huge waterfall at “Nabeh El Keif” where you can take unforgettable pictures.\n🥈 LEVEL 5 About 11 Km\, will continue from Nabeh Ozit. We will take an amazing uphill trail following a water pipe where the stunning mountainous landscape is impressive\, with trees seemingly defying gravity by growing on extremely vertical slopes. We will reach the great waterfall of Nabeh El Keif where we will meet the other group and head to Mazraat Teffah village. The most beautiful views you can ever imagine will lie in front of you.\nLEVEL 6 About 12 Km\, will then take a path downhill and will cross a narrow bridge that is high and open on both sides. Then we will pass by a spring and mill “Ziret Et Tine” with a beautiful water reservoir in the rocks. The views are remarkable. You just have to be there to believe! From there we will continue uphill to meet the rest of the group at the great waterfall then to the village.\nOn our way back we will stop at Bnachaeh Lake where there is a Wildlife Taxidermy Museum. It is a great place to end the hike. \nLive it up!
