DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT:

========================

Founded in the 12th century by the Maan emirs, Baakline served as their capital until the early 17th century when its most famous Emir Fakhreddin II, moved to Deir el Qamar. Today Baakline is an important Druze town and seat of the sect’s religious leader. The beautiful grand Serail, the main administrative building of Baakline before World War II, has been restored and transformed into a public library. In the center of the village stands the palace of Sheikh Hussein Hamadeh, built in stages starting in 1591.

The roots of Lebanon as we know it today go back to Baakleen. Around the year 1120 A.D., Amir Maan Ibn Rabeaah, the great grandfather of Amir Fakher Eddine Al Maani the second who established “Lubnan Al Kabeer”, settled in Baakleen with his tribe. He was supported by his in-laws, the Tanoukhyeen. Amir Maan was married to the daughter of Amir Noaaman Al Tanoukhy. Historians agree that Baakleen was the capital of the Maani Emirate.

HIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy, 4 to 6 for intermediate, 7 to 9 for strenuous

Baakline is a wonderful place for hiking; our hike will be divided into 2 levels:

LEVEL 4 (7 km) We will start from Baakline by a visit to the National Library that used to be a prison a long time ago, the Hamadeh Castle, Old Church Conserved by el Cheikh, Old tombs and then we will head to the beautiful forest and hike among trees. We will have the chance to admire breathtaking colored scenery and take memorable photos. At some point we will stop by the Atoun, and afterward, we will take the bus to Baakline and wait for the other group to have lunch by the waterfall “Challalat El Zarkaa” and the tall trees.

LEVEL 5 (11,5 Km) Will start walking the same trail of level 4 and will split at some point to reach the river of Baakline at “Challalat El Zarkaa” for lunch.
We will all see “Houwwet Raidan” a great natural hole for 70 m depth so be careful!

After lunch both levels will continue in a stretch pine beautiful trail to Daraya Bridge

On our way back to Beirut, we may stop in Deir El Qamar Castle; we will walk the old souk, discover the great landmarks and take a lot of pictures.
